Tybee Island 2018 part 2

Tybee Island

Back in June, I shared part 1 of our Tybee Island mini vacation with my parents. Life got crazy hectic preparing for Rwanda, so I’m just now sharing part 2 (which was the 2nd full day/last day- it was a very mini vacation). Like I said in my first post, I had intended to keep these posts short but Baker is so stinking cute and I took way too many photos to get it in one post (or even two).

Baker loved being in the ocean last year when we took her to Panama City but the waves scared her a bit this year, so we spent a lot of time playing in the sand. She loved filling up her buckets and transferring sand and water between buckets.

Is there anything more precious than beach curls?

Since Daddy couldn’t come with us to the beach, we sent lots of pictures and Facetimed multiple times each day so he could see Baker enjoying herself.

Tybee Island and her lighthouse hold a special place in mine and Cory’s hearts…it’s where he asked me to be his wife 9 years ago (holy cow…how is that possible?).

We were finally able to get Baker in the water but she wanted to be held close to my chest…not actually IN the water but you know, close enough.

There is a military base in Savannah which is right outside Tybee Island. We noticed there were a ton of boats and jet skis in the water that morning and they just sat there for almost two hours. A jet flew over and what looked like a few puffs of smoke came out the back of the plane. As my dad and I were watching it, we realized the “puffs” were actually paratroopers or other parachutists. They landed in the ocean and the jet skis rushed to them and picked them up. The plane flew over probably 5 or 6 times, dropping parachutists each time. We assumed this was some sort of exercise for the base since it was a military plane they were jumping out of.

When your baby asks to be held, you hold them.

Just like the day before, Baker’s favorite part of the beach was the food.

Look at that two handed shove of food in her mouth!

My niece Taylor is such a little fish. She spent the entire time in the ocean, riding the waves.

After lunch, we had to pack up and head back to the house to get ready for the carriage ride my grandparents had planned for us in Savannah.

We had a great guide. She was very knowledgable and had a great personality.

Baker really enjoyed herself, even though I wasn’t sure how she’d do on a ride like that and that close to horses.

Downtown Savannah is absolutely gorgeous, which made the ride even more enjoyable.

After the carriage ride, we walked to Huey’s on the River to have lunch with my grandparents. It began pouring on us so we ducked under an awning until the rain calmed down a bit.

My grandparents love this place so much—they had actually had breakfast there that morning, before inviting us to lunch there! It was really good!

Before heading back to the house, we stopped for some pictures with the beautiful trees.

Baker loves her Boo! And Mommy was glad to have someone there to help tote this heavy toddler around.

After getting back to our car (and checking for a ticket because we could not find a meter to pay parking), we headed back to the house to change Baker into her “beach picture” dress. We stopped by one of those Waves-type tourist shops and let the girls shop for a little while, then headed to the beach to snap a few pictures of Baker.

Even though our time was short, it was such a sweet vacation with my family. We don’t spend nearly enough time with the people we love the most and I’m so thankful for the memories we made with my grandparents!
